Hello Macalester Students!
Hello Macalester Students!
It's hard to believe that summer is over and classes begin next Wednesday. It's been a beautiful summer in St. Paul, but we're glad to have students back on campus. A special welcome to the 603 new students (586 first years, 11 exchange students and 6 transfers).
Below is information to assist your transition to campus:
Below is information to assist your transition to campus:
- Note that the first day of class is Labor day, a national holiday, thus college offices will be closed and no classes held. The first night class will not meet until September 14th. (if you are concerned about drop/add issues please be sure to consult with the staff in the registrar's office.)
- I’m happy to introduce our new Vice President for Student Affairs, Donna Lee. Donna joins us from Agnes Scott College in Georgia, and has already been a wonderful addition to the campus community.
- Take a moment to review the Student Handbook so you are aware of your responsibilities as a Macalester community member.
- Cafe Mac and other dining updates: We've added new tables to the north side of Cafe Mac to accommodate an additional 45 people at meal times. To help alleviate and re-route traffic, the grill station will now only offer hamburgers, chicken patties, etc. The daily special will be located on the south side station next to the curry selections. The menu at Nessie's in the Loch has been redeveloped to focus specifically on Italian style foods, in addition the pizza and calzones previously available. Pre-made sandwiches and salads will be available during lunch at the coffee cart in Janet Wallace. You can use aux or flex points, as well as cash or credit card to purchase items there. Construction will soon begin at Scotty's in the Leonard Center. By mid September we will debut lunchtime burritos, wraps and tacos. You will be able to use a meal swipe at this location, as well as flex or aux points, cash or credit. Follow this link for general information on meal times and menus. Fall meal plans begin today August 28th.
- Be sure to attend the First Thursday program on September 3rd, 11am-1pm in the Leonard Center Gymnasium to hear James Forman, Jr., a Clinical Professor of Law at Yale Law School speak about educational inequity. Mr. Forman writes and teaches in the areas of criminal procedure and criminal law policy, constitutional law, juvenile justice, and education law and policy.
- Last but not least, be sure to check out the great line up presented by Program Board for Welcome Back Week.
