Here are some resources that you can check out to help you engage in conversations about identity and self development. Also a great way for you to be engaged in the community!
THE DEPARTMENT OF MULTICULTURAL LIFE (THE DML)/LEALTAD-SUZUKI CENTER
The DML offers many resources for students, whether or not that student is a person of color. Programming, campaigns, and conversations hosted by the DML focus on all types of identities, and fostering comfortable, safe, pluralistic environments to think critically about identity and the individual. If you are interested in the DML, visit their website http://www.macalester.edu/multiculturallife. Their programmatic wing, the Lealtad-Suzuki Center, runs the identity collectives [http://www.macalester.edu/multiculturallife/lealtadsuzuki/programs/studentidentitycollectives/, ]. If you are interested in the Allies Project, Soup and Substance, or other regular programming by the Lealtad Suzuki Center, check out this site: http://www.macalester.edu/multiculturallife/lealtadsuzuki/programs/, or visit them on the first floor of Kagin Commons.
THE CENTER FOR RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL LIFE (THE CRSL)
If you are looking for a space to practice mindfulness, explore spirituality or religion, or to contemplate the world, you should go to the Weyerhaeuser Chapel and, on the bottom floor, find the CRSL staff. Our Chaplains are excellent resources for conversation, questions about your life and spiritual or mindful needs, and generally excellent individuals. They also offer excellent programs and are home to many of our religious student orgs. Check out their page: http://www.macalester.edu/religiouslife/.
THE INSTITUTE OF GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP (THE IGC)
We are all active members of the community around us. The IGC helps us realize our global citizenship by offering opportunities to act, to do scholarship, and to reflect upon your self. If you are interested in vocational or identity-based reflection, check out the Civic Engagement Center’s (CEC) website: http://www.macalester.edu/cec/reflectionandvocation/. You can also look at some of the education programming offered by the Dean’s Office, like the Global Citizenship in the News events that happen monthly and offer panels and speakers offering their personal and professional knowledge of prominent news stories. Also check out the International Roundtable in early August, focusing on educational inequity (remember Hope Against Hope?). Here’s the IGC website: http://www.macalester.edu/igc/. Interested in an internship experience that could help you grow and expand as an individual? Contact the Internship Program: http://www.macalester.edu/internships/.
